Apprenticeship Program at the Barnes Aerospace-Burnley Site
Q: What kind of training does the Barnes Aerospace-Burnley Apprenticeship Program provide?
A: Apprenticeship Standard L3 & L4: Apprentices rotate around the business, doing placements in different cells on the shopfloor and stores, usually for three to six months at a time.
Q: What is the duration of the Apprenticeship Program?
A: The standard Apprenticeship Program is four years long – NVQ level 3, as well as City and Guilds training (an organization that partners with colleges to support training). The apprentices can then progress to an HNC (Higher National Certificate) Level 4, and even an HND (Higher National Diploma).
Typically, the apprentice spends their first year of the program full time at college before coming on site. While there are options to do day release to college or blocks at college, the Burnley site has found day release to work better.
Q: How many apprentices does Barnes Aerospace-Burnley hire each year?
A: We typically engage one apprentice every few years, depending on succession planning.
Q: When do you normally recruit people to join the Apprenticeship Program?
A: Advertising typically starts in February, with interviews in March/April. The Apprenticeship Program begins in August.
Q: Which schools does Barnes Aerospace-Burnley usually recruit from?
A. Predominately Burnley College. The college does the initial interviews with potential apprentices before forwarding them to the site to interview.
Q: Who can I contact for more information?
A: To learn more about available apprenticeship opportunities at the Barnes Aerospace-Burnley site, please contact Louise Booth at lbooth@barnesaero.com.
